What is the Victory Ride Stakes?

The Victory Ride Stakes is a Grade III Thoroughbred race held annually at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York, as part of the July 4th Racing Festival. Contested at 6½ furlongs on the dirt exclusively for 3-year-old fillies, it is one of the premier early-summer sprint tests for sophomore fillies in the Northeast and a key benchmark for the division targeting the Grade I Test Stakes and Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint. The race is named in honor of Victory Ride, winner of the 2001 Grade I Test Stakes. Inaugurated in 2003 at Saratoga, the race was upgraded to Grade III status in 2006 and has been run primarily at Belmont Park since 2012, with temporary moves to Aqueduct in 2024 and Saratoga in 2025 due to Belmont Park's reconstruction. No trainer has won this race more than once, reflecting the depth and competitiveness of the sophomore filly sprint division each summer.

Hot Peppers gave owners Michael Dubb and Michael Caruso a memorable career-best win in a recent renewal, going on to compete in the Grade I Test Stakes later that summer. No trainer has won this race more than once in its modern history, a testament to the depth of the 3-year-old filly sprint division each year.
