The Preakness Stakes is one of the most prestigious horse races in the United States, taking place annually at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. As the second leg of the Triple Crown, it follows the Kentucky Derby and precedes the Belmont Stakes.
The race is held in May, typically on the third Saturday of the month. In 2025, the Preakness Stakes will be run onSaturday, May 17th.
The race covers a distance of 1 3/16 miles, making it slightly shorter than the Kentucky Derby. The Preakness Stakes attracts top 3-year-old thoroughbreds competing for a chance at Triple Crown glory. The total purse for the race is a significant $2 Million, with a large portion going to the winning horse and its connections.
