Meydan Racecourse is one of the most modern and iconic horse racing venues in the world. It officially opened on March 27, 2010, replacing the historic Nad Al Sheba Racecourse as Dubai’s premier racing venue. The project was commissioned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai and a major figure in global Thoroughbred racing.
The racecourse was built to host the Dubai World Cup, one of the richest horse races in the world, and has since become a centerpiece of international racing. Meydan’s grandstand stretches over a mile long and includes luxury hotels, restaurants, a racing museum, and panoramic views of the track, because subtlety was never the goal.
Originally, Meydan featured a synthetic Tapeta track, which was introduced in 2015. In 2023, the venue transitioned back to a dirt surface to align with major international dirt racing standards. Alongside the dirt track, Meydan also features a high-quality turf course, allowing it to host a wide variety of elite races.
Today, Meydan Racecourse is the heart of Dubai’s racing season and a major global hub for owners, trainers, jockeys, and bettors from around the world.
