The track issued a press release Tuesday, rescheduling the Thursday and Friday race cards to Monday and Tuesday (Aug. 12-13).
The decision “was made in consideration of the possible impact caused by Tropical Storm Debby leading to adverse racing conditions as well as safety concerns for those shipping in or traveling to participate,’’ the release said.
As for the track’s biggest day, the Colonial Downs Festival of Racing, a 12-race card that also includes the Secretariat Stakes (G2) as well as the Arlington Million and the Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In’’ Beverly D. Stakes, officials plan to decide by late afternoon Wednesday (Aug. 7), “when more accurate data is available.”
The races at Colonial Downs are run on the turf, and with heavy rain forecast for the next few days, the racing surface could become too dangerous for racing.
