Lupa (IRE) is the 1-1 morning line favorite for the 2026 Maple Leaf Stakes. The Irish-bred daughter of Lope de Vega, trained by Josie Carroll and ridden by Fraser Aebly, comes in off a win in the Ontario Matron Stakes at Woodbine and breaks from post 4 carrying 123 pounds.
Sultana is the 7-2 second choice. Dixie Law’s morning line price is TBA. Everyone else is 8-1 or higher, which tells bettors the oddsmaker sees this as a three-horse race on paper.
The 2026 Maple Leaf Stakes is Race 7 at Woodbine on Saturday, November 7, with a scheduled post time of 4:06 p.m. ET. It opens a Grade 3 tripleheader: the Autumn Stakes (Grade 3) follows as Race 9 at 5:10 p.m. ET and the Bessarabian Stakes (Grade 3) as Race 10 at 5:42 p.m. ET.
The three main contenders are Lupa (IRE), the 1-1 favorite; Sultana, the 2025 Maple Leaf Stakes winner at 7-2; and Dixie Law, a 3-year-old Grade 3 winner facing older fillies and mares for the first time. Hurricane Clair (8-1) and Fortyfiveseventy (10-1) round out the logical exotic contenders.
Sultana won this race last year at 5-1, rallying from near the back of a seven-horse field to get up in the final strides in 2:05.72, according to the official chart. She paid $12.90 to win. She returns off a sixth-place finish in the E.P. Taylor Stakes (Grade 1) on turf.
Dixie Law, a daughter of Tiz the Law for owner Hillsbrook Farms, has won four stakes, including the 2025 Mazarine Stakes (Grade 3), and is 2-2-1 from six starts in 2026. She was second in the Ontario Damsel Stakes on October 10. Trainer Dale Desruisseaux told Woodbine she can “float” once she makes the lead, a key pace note. She ran fourth in the 1 1/4-mile King’s Plate in August, so the distance is not new to her.
Hurricane Clair was part of a three-way early pace duel in last year’s Maple Leaf Stakes and now runs for trainer Michael Wright Jr.

At 1-1, Lupa (IRE) offers little win value. A short-priced favorite in a seven-horse field makes the race better suited to exotics and to opposing her at a price.
Sultana is the value case. She is a proven 1 1/4-mile winner over this track, keeps leading rider Rafael Manuel Hernandez, and her late kick fits a race where two speed horses, Dixie Law and Hurricane Clair, could press each other early. At 7-2 on the morning line, she is the logical win bet against the favorite.
Dixie Law is the wildcard. She gets 2 pounds from Lupa (IRE) and Sultana (121 vs. 123) as a 3-year-old, but the step up against older mares is real. Her price at post time decides whether she is a win bet or an exotic piece.
