What is the Count Fleet Sprint Handicap?
The Count Fleet Sprint Handicap is a Grade III Thoroughbred race held annually at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Run at 6 furlongs on the dirt for horses aged four and older, it is one of the premier sprint races in the country each spring and the crown jewel of Oaklawn's older sprint division. Named in honor of the 1943 Triple Crown champion Count Fleet, the race was inaugurated in 1974 and has grown to offer a purse of $500,000. It regularly attracts some of the best older sprinters in North America and has served as a launching pad for horses who later compete at the elite level.
