The Senator Ken Maddy Stakes is a non-graded stakes race for three-year-olds and older fillies and mares, run as part of the Breeders’ Cup undercard each year. It is contested at the same track hosting the Breeders’ Cup, with the venue changing over time as the championships move. The race was run at Del Mar the last two years (2024 and 2025), and in 2026, it will be held at Keeneland Race Course.
The distance has varied by year. While it was run at 5 furlongs last year, past editions have been contested at distances including about 5 1/2 furlongs and about 6 1/2 furlongs. Formerly a Grade III stakes, the Senator Ken Maddy Stakes is no longer graded but remains a regular feature of Breeders’ Cup weekend.
The 2026 Senator Ken Maddy Stakes is expected to take place on October 30th.
Notable winners of the Senator Ken Maddy Stakes include top horses such as A G Indy, Broken Dreams, Belleski, and Gotta Have Her. Many past winners have gone on to compete in major graded stakes during the season, which reinforces the race’s growing importance among bettors and handicappers.
