The West Virginia Derby has produced multiple Breeders' Cup starters, with Concord Point (2010) and Cupid (2016) among the most celebrated alumni. In 2024, Juddmonte Farms' Dragoon Guard gave trainer Brad Cox a prestigious victory and added to an already strong summer campaign that included the Indiana Derby.
