Belmont Stakes Day has begun, and the main track has been listed as sloppy/sealed and turf course has been listed as yielding.
With rain expected to continue early in the day, there have been dozens of scratches mostly due to the weather, remember this might affect your Belmont Stakes betting strategy.
There are no changes currently to the eight-horse field for the 157th Belmont Stakes (G1), the highly anticipated rainy rematch between the top three finishers in the Kentucky Derby (G1) -- Sovereignty, Journalism, and Baeza. Post time is 7:04 p.m. ET.
Four of the six races scheduled on the turf have already been moved to the main dirt track.
For those who bet horse racing, it’s time to adjust your handicapping.
The changes during the day:
Race 3 saw eight scratches from a field of 16.
Race 6, the Wonder Again Stakes (G2), has five scratches leaving the race with three runners.
The Pennine Ridge (G3), race 10, saw three scratches, reducing the field to seven.
The 14th and final race, an allowance optional claimer, had 12 scratches from a field of 16 entries.
The $500,000 Jaipur Stakes (G1), race 9 with a post time 4:08 p.m. and the $1 million Manhattan Stakes (G1), race 12 with a 6:09 p.m. post time, were still scheduled for the turf course as of late morning.
