What to Check Before You Bet Each Race

Scratches: Magnitude is out of the Classic, Zulu Kingdom out of the Mile, and Test Score out of the Turf. Check for late scratches before every race; they change the odds board.
Short-priced favorites: Four races have a morning-line favorite below 3-2: Englishman (4-5, Sprint), Nitrogen (6-5, Distaff), Ways and Means (7-5, Filly & Mare Sprint) and Notable Speech (7-5, Mile).
Big fields: The Turf has 15 runners, the Mile 14 and the Sprint 13. Bigger fields mean higher prices outside the top of the betting.
The Classic: seven runners after Magnitude’s scratch, with Forever Young 2-1 and Sovereignty 5-2 on the morning line.
