The $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) is a true championship event for 2-year-old fillies on the main track at 1 1/16 miles. One of the original Breeders’ Cup stakes, it will be run for the 43rd time on Friday, Oct. 30.
The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies is carded as race 6, with a post time of 3:35 p.m. ET. The race will be televised by USA Network and Peacock.
The pre-entries will be announced on Wednesday, Oct. 21; the post-position draw and morning-line odds will be revealed on Monday, Oct. 26.
There is more at stake here than a lucrative purse. In nearly all cases over the years, the Juvenile Fillies winner has been voted the division's Eclipse Award champion. Past winners include many of the greatest distaff runners of all time, including Songbird (2015), Beholder (2012), Silverbulletday (1998), Meadow Star (1990) and Go For Wand (1989).
Note: Jockeys listed below are from the horse’s previous race; changes are likely.
The complexion of the race changed dramatically with the injury to Summer Starlet, the impressive winner of the Spinaway (G1) at Saratoga. She would have been one of the top contenders and a strong betting favorite. That role now falls to Emphatic, who sports a 3-for-3 record. After posting a dominant win in the Sorority Stakes at Monmouth Park, she shifted to Keeneland to beat Summer Starlet in the Alcibiades (G1).
Betting Angle: Players will love that she owns a pacesetting Grade 1 win on the track. At 3-1, she was the third choice in the Alcibiades. That would be fair value in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.
What to Watch: A clean break. If she gets into the hunt, her natural speed will carry a long way.
Unbeaten in two starts, including the Del Mar Debutante (G1) where she romped to a 6 1/4 length win as the 2-5 favorite.
Betting Angle: A talented filly trained by Baffert who has won this race twice (Silverbulletday, 1998; Indian Blessing, 2007). Even when he doesn’t win, Baffert often hits the board in the race, as evidenced by second-place finishes by Executiveprivilege (2012), Alluring Star (2017), and Explora (2025).
What to Watch: Expect a stalking trip in what should be a full field. California shippers usually have good early foot, and that would put her in a striking spot behind Emphatic.
Stepped up from a second-place finish in a maiden race to pull a 14-1 shocker, widening by seven lengths in the Oak Leaf (G2) at Santa Anita.
Betting Angle: Odds could also be generous in this race as she gets overlooked against more prominent jockey-trainer combinations.
What to Watch: With plenty of speed in the race, Domain Expansion has a solid closing kick that could put her in play in deep stretch.
Crazy Hot Mess: Interesting move here as co-owner Ray Bryner takes over the training from Peter Miller. Crazy Hot Mess has a 1-1-1 record in three starts, and her latest effort, a rally from far back for second in the Del Mar Debutante, was her best to date.
Why a Value Bet: Went off 25-1 in the Del Mar Debutante. Could be that price, or higher.
The Risk: Since 2000, only five horses have run in the Juvenile Fillies off a trainer switch. None have finished better than sixth, when Union Strike ran for the first time for trainer Craig Dollase.
