 1) Tepin

She continues to amaze us with every start and her Grade I Woodbine Mile victory is no exception. The Mark Casse trainee is the easy leader in the clubhouse for our first edition of the Breeders’ Cup Mile rankings. In order for a horse to dethrone her, you will need to defeat her, which is something that has not happened to her in over a year.

2) Alice Springs

You may remember this lass running in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies turf last season, finishing second to Catch a Glimpse. She has really blossomed as a three-year-old and if she makes the trip to the United States, you will need to take her seriously. It is yet to be determined if she can hang with Tepin, but she has been banging heads with some pretty classy fillies across the pond.

3) Mutakayyef

He has raced against two of the best turf horses around in his last two starts and he had a great run in each of them. In the Group I Juddmonte International, he ran into the buzzsaw named Postponed, the current favorite for the Group I Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, and could have possibly defeated him with a cleaner trip. In his last outing, as you saw above, he ran a game race in the Woodbine Mile (GIT) to finish third to Tepin. It is no disgrace finishing so close behind these elite horses and, with better racing luck, he could find himself in the winner’s circle if they meet again.

4) Ribchester

This dude is quietly starting to establish himself as one of the better three-year-old colts across the pond, as his win in the Group I Prix Jacques le Marois will attest to. If he makes the trip over to the United States, he will no doubt be a contender in the Breeders’ Cup Mile. The mile distance suits him perfectly and the fast turf at Santa Anita might also move him up. There is a lot to like with this youngster.

5) Solow

Solow has long been considered the king of the Mile distance, but an injury has sidetracked him for the majority of his 2016 campaign. It remains to be seen if he will run again this year. What we do know is that the Breeders’ Cup Mile was mentioned as a possible landing spot for him if he were to return this season. If he does indeed run, you will be watching a horse that has won 10 races in a row and has not lost a race in two years. Injury has led him to being ranked fifth on our list, but if he makes the trip to the United States you will see him climb higher. He would be a true contender to knock off Tepin. We will keep you updated.

Other Contenders:

6) Vadamos
7) Galileo Gold
8) Limato
9) Time Test
10) Mondialiste

Andrew Morisch
Drew Morisch, aka “Drew Mo” or the “Bloghorse,” has been an avid sports fan since he was born. Growing up in Nebraska, it was easy for him to fall in love with football and horse racing. He became a huge horse racing fan by attending Ak-Sar-Ben race track before its gates closed (sadly) for the last time in 1995.

Horses such as Breeders’ Cup Classic champion Black Tie Affair, Preakness winner Gate Dancer and local favorite Who Doctor Who all graced the dirt at Ak-Sar-Ben and helped power Drew’s passion for the Sport of Kings.

Drew has other passions to go along with horse racing. He is a big Nebraska Cornhuskers fan. You will usually find him tailgating at some undisclosed location on game days. Drew loves crunching numbers and analyzing data. Whether it’s PE ratios on stocks, speed figures in horse racing, or assist-to-turnover ratios in basketball, there is no such thing as too much information in his book. Drew also plays fantasy sports.

You interact with Drew on Facebook at www.facebook.com/DrewMorisch or follow him on Twitter @thebloghorse.
