The Mineshaft Stakes is a Grade III American Thoroughbred horse race for horses aged four and older, contested over about 1 1/16 miles on the dirt at Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans, Louisiana. It’s part of Fair Grounds’ mid-February stakes schedule and serves as an early-season test for older dirt runners.
The 2026 Mineshaft Stakes is scheduled for February 14 during the Fair Grounds winter racing season.
In the 2025 Mineshaft Stakes, Hall of Fame took the victory over about 1 1/16 miles of dirt for trainer Steven Asmussen and jockey Jose Ortiz. Other past winners have included strong older horses, such as Silver Dust and Stonehouse, who went on to compete in major stakes later in the season, making the race notable for bettors and handicappers alike.
