Pegagus World Cup White Abarrio Top the List

White Abarrio, the defending champion, is among 12 horses invited to run in the $3 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 24.

Other invitees for the 10th running of the Pegasus World Cup include Skippinglongstocking, Goal Oriented, Tappan Street, Disco Time, Bishops Bay, Captain Cook, Rattle N Roll, Chunk of Gold, Poster, Full Serrano, and Touchuponastar.

The 1 1/8-mile race for 4-year-olds and up will headline a program with seven graded stakes, including the $1 million Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational (G1) and the $500,000 Pegasus World Cup Filly & Mare Turf Invitational (G2).

The 7-year-old (as of Jan. 1) White Abarrio has excelled at Gulfstream Park through the years with eight wins from 10 starts at his home track. Among those wins: the Holy Bull Stakes (G3) and the Florida Derby (G1) in 2022 and the Pegasus World Cup and Ghostzapper Stakes (G3) in 2025. He also won the 2023 Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) at Santa Anita and totals $7.1 in career earnings.

White Abarrio has finished fourth in his last three races, all Grade 1s at Saratoga in upstate New York over the summer.

Skippylongstocking, who has $3.75 million in earnings, won the Harlan’s Holiday (G3) at Gulfstream Park on Dec. 20.

Goal Oriented won Sunday’s Malibu Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita and would give Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert a chance to win his fourth Pegasus World Cup. His previous winners were Arrogate (2017), Mucho Gusto (2020), and National Treasure (2024).

Trainer Brad Cox, who sent out 2021 Pegasus World Cup winner Knicks Go, has three invitees: Tappan Street (2025 Florida Derby winner), unbeaten Disco Time (5-for-5), and Bishops Bay, Cigar Mile (G2) winner and 9-for-13.

Captain Cook is trained by Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher, who won the 2022 Pegasus World Cup with Life Is Good; Rattle N Roll, a Grade 1-stakes winner, is trained by Kenny McPeek; and Full Serrano is the 2024 Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) winner (he ran fifth in the 2025 Mile).

Pegasus Turf Invitational features seven Millionaires

Trainers Chad Brown, Todd Pletcher, and Mike Maker, two-time winners of the Turf, have horses among the 19 invitees.

Spirit of St Louis, trained by Brown, won the 2025 edition of the race of the 1 1/8-mile race. Multiple graded stakes invitees include Cabo Spirit, Major Dude (Pletcher), Program Trading, and Wolfie’s Dynaghost.

Also, the opening invitee list are England-bred Almendares; Anegada (Mike Maker); Astronomer; Balnikhov; Beach Gold; Call Sign Seven; Chasing the Crown (Mike Maker); Cugino; El Potente; Layabout; Namaron; Ohana Honor; One Stripe; Program Trading (Chad Brown); Test Score; and Win for the Money.
