Trainer Kenny McPeek made it official on Wednesday in a news release issued by Keeneland. He also emphasized the 4-year-old superstar filly is ‘fine’ after a disappointing fourth-place finish in the Spinster Stakes (G1) at Keeneland on Oct. 5 in what is now the final race of her career.

“For everybody out there that’s worried about her, you can rest at ease. She’s fine.” McPeek said. “She has been examined by several veterinarians. Dr. Bramlage of Rood and Riddle found some very mild bone bruising which is consistent with horses in work at her level and she could go back to training in 90 days, but we have opted to retire her.”

Thorpedo Anna dazzled racing fans with her grace and grit in putting together a Hall of Fame resume for owners Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms (John Sikura), Judy Hicks, Mark Edwards, and Magdalena Racing (Kenny and Sherri McPeek).

In a two-year run, from her debut win at Keeneland on Oct. 26, 2023 to her finale in the Spinster Stakes (G1) at Keeneland on Oct. 5, Thorpedo Anna won 12 of 16 career race, including the 2024 Kentucky Oaks (G1), the 2024 Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1), and the Personal Ensign Stakes (G1) on Aug. 23 at Saratoga.

All totaled, the Fast Anna filly won seven Grade 1s and finished second in two others, including a narrow loss to Fierceness in the 2024 Travers Stakes, her only race against the boys. Her earnings topped $5.4 million.

Share of Thorpedo Anna Up for Sale at Auction

As Thorpedo Anna begins her next career as a broodmare, a 20% interest in the filly will be offered at the Keeneland Championship Sales on Oct. 29 at Del Mar, two days before the 42nd edition of the Breeders’ Cup begins at the track.

“It’s an incredible privilege to offer an interest in reigning Horse of the Year Thorpedo Anna at the Championship Sale,” Shannon Arvin, President and CEO of Keeneland, said. “Her brilliance on the track has captured the imagination of fans everywhere. Buyers now have an extraordinary opportunity to share in her future as a broodmare.”

McPeek thanks Racing Fans

“We’re really proud of her. She’s had tremendous support – thank you to all the fans that have cheered her on during her career.’’

Hicks bred Thorpedo Anna, and McPeek purchased her at auction for $40,000 in 2022 from Grovendale Sales consignment to the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October Yearling Sale. Her dam, the Uncle Mo mare Sataves , was named Broodmare of the Year in 2024.

"As a racehorse, Thorpedo Anna is one of the most accomplished fillies in history and has been an exciting horse to watch," Sikura said. "Everyone at Hill 'n' Dale looks forward to being a part of her next chapter as a top broodmare."
