The Beverly D. Stakes is a Grade II Thoroughbred race held annually at Colonial Downs in New Kent County, Virginia, as part of the Festival of Racing. Contested at 1 3/16 miles on the turf for fillies and mares aged three and older, it is the most important distaff turf race in North American midsummer racing and a Breeders' Cup Challenge "Win, and You're In" qualifier, with the winner receiving an automatic, fees-paid starting position in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Keeneland in October. Named in honor of Beverly Duchossois, wife of longtime Arlington Park owner Richard Duchossois, the race was inaugurated in 1987 at Arlington Park and was a Grade I event from 1991 until its 2024 downgrade to Grade II. The Beverly D. has produced seven American Champion Female Turf Horses, including Flawlessly (1993), Hatoof (1994), Possibly Perfect (1995), Golden Apples (2002), Stacelita (2011), Dank (2013), and Moira (2024), who won the race before going on to capture the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf. Chad Brown holds the trainer record with six wins, including Sistercharlie's back-to-back titles in 2018 and 2019. The stakes record of 1:52.43 was set by Sistercharlie in 2019. Following the closure of Arlington Park in 2021, the race ran at Churchill Downs in 2022 before finding its permanent new home at Colonial Downs in 2023.
The 2026 Beverly D. Stakes is scheduled for Saturday, August 1 at Colonial Downs as part of the Festival of Racing alongside the Arlington Million. Contested at 1 3/16 miles on the turf with a purse of $500,000, the race draws an elite international field of older fillies and mares targeting the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Keeneland in October.
The Beverly D. Stakes has produced a succession of champion fillies and mares in its Colonial Downs era. Charlene's Dream gave trainer Ed Moger Jr. and jockey Javier Castellano a wire-to-wire 2025 victory in 1:53.74 for Domeyko Taylor LP, the daughter of Qurbaan stalking the pace before drawing off to win by 1½ lengths. Moira gave trainer Kevin Attard and jockey Jose Ortiz a 2024 score for Madaket Stables and partners in a thrilling duel with rival Fev Rover — Moira went on to win the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf and was voted American Champion Female Turf Horse. Fev Rover (IRE) gave trainer Mark Casse and jockey Javier Castellano a 2023 wire-to-wire victory in 1:54.35 for owner Tracy Farmer. Dalika (GER) gave trainer Al Stall Jr. and jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. the 2022 victory at Churchill Downs, the race temporarily shortened to 1⅛ miles. Santa Barbara (IRE) gave trainer Aidan O'Brien and jockey Ryan Moore the final Arlington Park running of the Beverly D. in 2021, giving Coolmore one of their most celebrated North American distaff turf wins.
