Laurel Park Racing

Located between Washington D.C. and Baltimore, Laurel Park race track has hosted thoroughbred horse racing since 1911. It is one of the regular hosts of the Maryland Million, as well as the Frank J. De Francis Memorial Dash, Barbara Fritchie Handicap and General George Handicap.

Triple Crown winners Sir Barton, War Admiral, Whirlaway, Secretariat and Affirmed won races at Laurel Park during their Hall of Fame careers.

Laurel Park Hosts the 2026 Preakness Stakes

For the first time in the modern era, the Preakness Stakes, the second jewel of horse racing's Triple Crown, leaves its historic home at Pimlico Race Course and comes to Laurel Park. With Pimlico undergoing a complete rebuild funded by $400 million in state bonds, Laurel Park steps up to host the 151st Preakness Stakes on Saturday, May 16, 2026, carrying a $2,000,000 purse at 1 3/16 miles on the dirt. The last time the Preakness was held at a venue other than Pimlico was 1908, when the race ended a 15-year run at Gravesend Race Track in Brooklyn, New York, making 2026 the first time in 117 years the race has moved to a different track entirely. The nation's top three-year-old Thoroughbreds converge on Laurel Park just two weeks after the Kentucky Derby, making this one of the most historically significant racing events Maryland has ever hosted. Television coverage airs on CNBC and NBC, with a full stream on Peacock.
