It all began in 1981 when the Arlington Million burst onto the scene as the world's first-ever million-dollar Thoroughbred horse race on turf. The visionary minds behind this audacious endeavor sought to establish a race that would rival the most esteemed international events. They succeeded beyond measure, birthing an event that became synonymous with elegance, passion, and sheer class.

Over the years, the Arlington Million has played host to some of the most breathtaking displays of equine supremacy. From the thunderous hooves pounding against the hallowed turf to the cheers of the electrified crowd, this race transforms mere moments into everlasting memories.

Many legendary horses have graced the Arlington Park track, etching their names in the prestigious annals of the sport. Majestic figures like John Henry, Secretariat, and Gio Ponti have triumphed here, showcasing their extraordinary talent and eternally binding their legacy to the race.

Beyond borders and oceans, the Arlington Million has embraced the world, becoming a magnet for top-tier talent from across the globe. With an alluring blend of American speed and European finesse, the race draws the crème de la crème of international turf champions. Witness the melding of styles, the clash of strategies, and the ultimate test of skill, as horse and jockey unite to conquer the Arlington turf.

The Arlington Million stands as a true jewel in the crown of American horse racing. A mesmerizing blend of tradition, glamour, and sheer spectacle, the race exudes an unparalleled sense of grandeur. Each year, the event brings together an array of racing enthusiasts, fashion aficionados, and connoisseurs of elegance, all united by their love for the equine pursuit.

The race had been run under several different names in the past: In 1981, it was called the Arlington Million Invitational Stakes; from 1982 through 1984 it was known as the Budweiser Million Stakes; from 1985 through 1987, it was the Budweiser-Arlington Million. In 1988, the race was held at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario to accommodate for the completion of repairs from a 1985 fire, and there was no race held in 1998 or 1999 during a two-year shutdown of Arlington Park.
